BILL'S STORY
You could say that Bill Holley was drawn to advertising at a very early age. In fact, he was only 6 when he won his first “Draw Me” art contest, which he found on the inside of a matchbook cover. The Harris School of Art didn’t think much of the rowdy young student – but it was his tuition fund that ran out – not his luck. It was then that Bill met Tom Buntin of Buntin & Associates Advertising. And thus began his long career as an art director and, more importantly, an ad man. As Buntin employee #001, Bill would go on to design the iconic “bean” logo for Cracker Barrel and join forces with advertising giant Jeffrey Buntin, Sr. During his tenure, Bill went from art student to art director and mentor. Area agencies were littered with Creatives who’d learned from and/or worked for Mr. Holley. And even though we lost Bill on September 3, 2021, his legacy of teaching and inspiring the next generation of artists interested in advertising will live on for generations to come.
THE OATH
When Bill retired in 2010, a plaque was bolted to his door that read:
"May all who take this office continue the legacy of selflessness, good cheer, talent and unending optimism represented by William "Bill" Holley... advertising's longest-tenured, single-agency associate."
